Transparent PNG Maker

Turn PNG and JPG images into transparent PNGs for logos, overlays and web graphics.

Add up to 30 PNG or JPG images (up to 50 MB each) and download each one as a PNG with the background made transparent. When the image sits on a flat, single-color border, such as a logo on white, the tool keys out that color; for photos it uses an AI model that finds the main subject. Everything runs in your browser, and sensitivity, edge smoothing and color tolerance can be adjusted before you download.

Create transparent PNG images online

Logos, icons, stickers, watermarks and product overlays all need a transparent background so they can sit on top of other content. This transparent PNG maker removes the background in your browser and saves the result as a PNG, ready to drop onto a web page, slide or design.

Why PNG supports transparency

Besides the red, green and blue channels, a PNG can store an alpha channel with a transparency value for every pixel. A pixel can be fully opaque, fully transparent, or anything in between, which is why PNG is the usual format for graphics laid over other content.

Common uses for transparent PNGs

A transparent logo can go on any background color, pattern or photo without a white box around it. Web designers layer icons and decorative graphics over colored sections. Sticker packs for messaging apps, watermarks, slide graphics, product images on colored store themes and game sprites all rely on the same alpha channel.

How to make a background transparent

Add your PNG or JPG images and check the preview. In Auto mode the tool looks at the image border. If the border is almost one solid color, it removes that color, and you can raise the tolerance to catch shadows and anti-aliased edges or limit removal to areas connected to the border so matching colors inside the logo stay. Otherwise it uses the U²-Net AI model, which downloads once and is cached by your browser. You can also pick the method yourself. Images with a clear contrast between subject and background give the cleanest edges.

PNG vs JPG: when to use each format

JPG has no transparency, so any transparent area in a JPG becomes white or another solid color. Use PNG when you need transparency, sharp edges or text overlays, and JPG for photos without transparency where a smaller file matters more. This tool always saves PNG.

Quality and file size

PNG compression is lossless, so the subject keeps every pixel of detail. A PNG with transparency is usually bigger than a JPG of the same picture. For the web, keep the dimensions no larger than you need, or run the result through the PNG compressor.

Private processing

Your images are processed in your browser and are not uploaded, which matters for unreleased logos and brand material. The libraries and the AI model used here are listed on the open source licenses page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a JPG image have a transparent background?

Yes. Add the JPG and the tool saves a PNG with the background removed. A JPG can't store transparency itself, so the white or colored background in the original is what gets removed and replaced with transparent pixels.

How do I know if my PNG has a transparent background?

Most image editors show transparent areas as a gray and white checkerboard. In a browser, transparent areas show whatever is behind the image. The preview in this tool also uses a checkerboard.

Can I create partially transparent PNGs?

The background becomes fully transparent, and the edge smoothing setting gives the outline a soft, partly transparent border. For semi-transparent overlays such as a faded watermark, use an image editor that lets you set layer opacity.

What is the maximum image size I can process?

Each file can be up to 50 MB and 64 megapixels, and up to 30 files fit in one batch. Results are saved at up to 8,192 pixels on the longest side. Large images take longer on slower devices.

Can I use transparent PNGs in Microsoft Office documents?

Yes. Word, PowerPoint and Excel all support transparent PNGs. Insert the file and the transparent areas show the slide or page behind it, which looks much cleaner than a JPG with a white box.
