Add up to 30 PNG images (up to 50 MB each) and the tool traces each one into an SVG made of colored vector shapes. Pick a preset (logo with 8 colors, illustration with 16, detailed with 48, or posterized with 6), then fine-tune the color count from 2 to 64, smoothing and detail. Tracing runs in your browser with imagetracerjs, and you can download the SVG or copy its code.
Convert PNG images to SVG format
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) describes a picture as paths and shapes instead of pixels. Converting a PNG to SVG means tracing it, also called vectorization: the tool finds areas of similar color and redraws their outlines as vector paths that stay sharp at any size.
What is SVG and why convert PNG to SVG?
PNG is a raster format that stores a fixed grid of pixels, so it turns blocky or blurry when you scale it up. SVG stores shapes and colors as instructions, so it renders sharply at any size. That makes it the better format for logos, icons, illustrations and other graphics used at several sizes.
When SVG conversion works best
Images with clear shapes, flat colors and crisp edges trace well: logos, icons, line art, signatures, simple illustrations and text graphics. Photos and images with smooth gradients don't. Their SVG is often bigger than the PNG and looks posterized, so it's usually better to keep those as raster images.
Tracing limitations
A trace is an approximation. Fine details get simplified, and gradients turn into bands of color. Fewer colors and more smoothing give smaller, cleaner SVGs. More colors and more detail follow the original more closely but produce larger files. Very large images are traced at up to 4 megapixels and the result is scaled to the original size.
Private processing
Your PNG images are traced in your browser and are never uploaded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert any PNG to SVG?
Any PNG can be traced, but the results vary. Logos, icons and line art with flat colors and sharp edges come out clean. Photos and complex images produce large SVGs that look artificial.
Will the SVG look exactly like my PNG?
Not exactly. Tracing approximates the shapes, so fine details are simplified. Simple graphics with bold shapes come out very close to the original, while images with gradients and fine textures look noticeably different.
Is the converted SVG truly scalable?
Yes. The SVG is made of paths, so it stays sharp at any size. You can use the same file as a 16 pixel favicon or a 1000 pixel banner.
Why is my SVG file larger than the original PNG?
That happens when you trace a complex image such as a photo, because the SVG needs many path segments to approximate the detail. Lower the color count, raise the smoothing, or keep complex images as PNG. SVG pays off with simple graphics that a few paths can describe.
